This lifelong swimmer was initially reluctant to water, but by age 13, he quickly showcased his potential. Coached by 1960 Olympian Berndt Nilsson, Glen Christiansen excelled, competing in European and World Championships and the 1980 Moscow Olympics, where he placed 11th in the 200-meter breaststroke. In 1981, he posted the fastest Short Course Meters time in the 100 breaststroke.
After a brief hiatus from elite swimming, Glen triumphed in Masters events, winning three gold medals and a world record at the first FINA Masters World Championships in 1986. He set 24 Masters world records and won 15 gold medals in FINA World Championships.
Following a stroke in 2013, Glen used swimming as part of his recovery and won a 2.5km open water race six months later. In 2022, he secured an international title in the 200 butterfly at the European Masters Championships. Glen now runs the “Swimmers without Borders” camp in Tenerife and will be inducted into the ISHOF on October 4, 2024.
