Triathlon Training Camp Tenerife 2023

It would be a pleasure to welcome you to our Triathlon Training Camp at T3 from 4 to 11 February 2023. Learning, Sightseeing and Competition!

Why would you want to travel to Tenerife for a Tri Camp?

A question Matt Luxton (Coach of the Tamara Performance Centre) got asked by a triathlon magazine editor from the USA recently.
For any age group triathlete, travelling abroad is a big commitment in terms of time, effort and financial investment.
It’s hard to describe what this experience does for a triathlete because we all desire different outcomes and often learn things unique to our own positioning at that point in our triathlon journey.

The Triathlon Venue

Tenerife offers many challenging bike routes, caused by Pico del Teide, the highest mountain in Spain with a height of, 3718 m. We like to use some of the coastal roads, some of the hills close to the centre and also Mount Teide itself.
Many professional cycle teams, like Team Sky, Cannondale or Astana, use the cycling routes regularly for training sessions.

Further, elite cyclists like Chris Froome or Alberto Contador frequently go to Tenerife to benefit from the perfect training conditions.
The traffic is respectful to cyclists and the roads are in a good condition as well. The Mount Teide road has really benefited from a serious uplift in the last couple of years.
On the grounds of Tenerife Top Training, a Free Motion Bike Centre is located, where fully equipped bikes can be rented or purchased.

A mixture of tracks and trails for running close to T3 (5000 m – 16000 m) with fantastic views. The athletics track in the training centre is a great place for quality sessions.

When it comes to swimming

Open water training with easy access to the sea makes this a superb venue for some unique swim-run combinations.
T3 offers an Olympic swimming pool (50 m) with 10 lanes and another 25 m pool with 6 lanes.
A constant water temperature of 26-28° Celsius and lockable Swim training boxes available help us minimise the hassle of moving swim training gear around with us.
Another highlight of the camp is the flume channel and the 3D video recording of your swimming technique can be analysed and evaluated by you as the athlete and your coach.

The gym areas

The centre has two fully equipped strength and conditioning areas and an outdoor cross-training box to provide everything we need to help you understand how to make more of your training in Tenerife.

Training amongst top-level athletes is an experience that only moves you forwards.
The environment is host to many CrossFit Regional and Games Athletes, Liverpool FC, Warrington Wolves, Olympians, and many more top-level professional athletes. They are always really friendly when we have crossed paths over the last 4 years using the centre.

Overall, this is a great way to kickstart your season and a base for future training structures. The quality of the sessions provided will serve to help you progress at a much faster rate than you would by yourself, as we all need that bit of a push from those around us. Positive peer pressure is a great benefit of being on a camp with like-minded people and when you couple this with the chance to develop a deeper understanding of how you can improve you leave feeling empowered!

The climate!

This is a unique opportunity to train in a climate unlike home at that time of year and be part of a supportive environment and learn from not only the coaches but other athletes of all abilities on the camp.

If you would like more details on spaces left for our training camp running from 4th to 11th February 2023 please contact Ian Tyers from TTT Sports Ltd.

The Tri coaches

The Head Coach is Matt Luxton of the Tamar Performance Centre. Matt is a certified Ironman Coach as well as a highly competent competitor himself, having qualified for the Ironman 70.3 Worlds in the USA again.

Ian Tyers lead the swim coaching and coach with Exeter City Swimming Club, England and compete more in open water swims and long-distance aquabike events now, although previously raced GB Age Group at Europeans.

They both have experience of racing overall sensible triathlon distances (They have a friend who raced a deca-ironman recently ….that doesn’t count as sensible!!) and coaching athletes to do likewise.

We have been running Triathlon Training Camps for 8 years now and have a programme which delivers a lot of fun alongside lots of good learning.
